The KBBA holds several productions throughout the year.
The Classical Production, Contemporary, Creative and Specialist students participate in our annual Choreographic Event, usually held on week 9 of Term 2 (Saturday night), at the lovely Kalamunda Theatre. It is a variety dance performance showcasing several different dance styles, including Classical, Contemporary, Neo-Classical, Cabaret, Creative and Character. The level 5 & 6 Contemporary and Specialist students, alongside all KBBA teachers, choreograph and display their own dance works at the Choreographic Event, which is included in the KBBA curriculum and also forms a part of their final examination result. This event is also our major fundraiser for the year.
KBBA also holds a major production in December of each year, held at the prestigious Rixon Theatre in Como. All students from Tiny Tots 2 to our highest senior grades, participate in the end of year performance.
Previous performances have included:
- The Nutcracker
- Beatrix Potter
- Giselle
- Cinderella
- Alice in Wonderland
- Excerpts from Sleeping Beauty
- Dorothy in Oz
- Beauty and The Beast
- And many more.....
This year the KBBA students will perform the magical ballet A Midnight Summers Dream, and our Senior Students, Creative and Production Students will perform excerpts from the Nutcracker and Contemporary Dance Pieces. Our performances are very professional and of a very high quality. Each year we have honoured guests including WA Ballet Company artists, Examiners and Head of Dance Directors attend our performances and their comments are aways positive and very flattering. Their constructive feedback enables our performances to attain a very high standard.
In December 2010, The Kim Baker Ballet Academy Specialist and Production students were chosen by the Company Directors of the Austrian Ballet Company Tokyo, to perform with them at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre. The Specialist students performed alongside the company in the famous ballet Paquita and also the Japanese ballet Hiroshima Taro. The production class performed the Ball scene, also from the ballet Paquita. It was very exciting for the students and an honour for them to perform with such a highly prestiqious and professional company. The students gained many benefits and learnt so much from this valuable performing experience.
